Invasion of the Fruit Fly
Somehow, on my last grocery shop I managed to pick up the bunch of bananas with a SWARM (no exaggeration) of Fruit Flies living in the stalk. They have been on our kitchen counter about three days and yesterday I glanced at them and thought I saw ants crawling across them so gently touched the skin and jumped back in surprise as an angry army of Fruit Flies instantly burst in the air around the apartment. It took us a few seconds to work out exactly what they were and what had happened and within minutes the apartment felt infested. A few minutes research on the internet revealed they have a life span of a week and quickly lay eggs in household furniture/fabrics etc. As you can imagine, this did not go down well with the boy, and as lazy and scruffy as I am prepared to be at points these little flying buzzards were somewhat annoying. We then spent 3hrs+ sterilizing our apartment from top to bottom, sweating like crazy trying to get rid of them anyway we could. Ultimately we ended up setting some home made traps (vinegar and washing up liquid) and the little idiots go straight for them. 24hrs later we seem to be spotting fewer and fewer of them so hopefully we avoided an infestation...I'm keeping everything crossed that they work as the boy read yesterday (just before we went to bed at 5am) that they land on you whilst your sleeping (apparently they are pretty incompetent flyers!) so obviously he didn't get a wink of sleep even with a little blue pill inside him.

Awww....that's terrible! I hope you managed to get them all. I had no idea they could lay eggs on the furniture. Bleh!
